About the event
Join us at the German Saturday School of Boston (GSSB) for our annual St. Martin’s Lantern Parade (Laternenumzug) — a cherished celebration held every year around November 11, the feast day of St. Martin of Tours.
The parade begins at 11:50am at the front desk. Children from PS - 2nd grade will take part. All we welcome to watch.
In German-speaking countries, children mark this day with evening lantern walks, songs, and stories honoring St. Martin, remembered for his kindness and generosity — famously sharing his cloak with a beggar on a cold night.
Experience the Magic of Light and Community
Our younger classes will proudly carry the handmade lanterns they crafted in school, parading through the grounds in a joyful procession of music, singing, and light. Families are invited to join in and experience the heartwarming spirit of this German tradition — a celebration of sharing, empathy, and togetherness.
