Our curriculum at GSSB is designed to enable students to communicate effectively in German by giving them a strong foundation in understanding German, building their vocabulary, speaking, reading and writing. German is the primary language of instruction in all classes.

The principal developed a curriculum plan in collaboration with a group of faculty members, providing students with continuity as they move from level to level, as well as providing teachers with a solid foundation for lesson planning, classroom instruction, and assessment.

Our curriculum includes guidelines to help the teachers structure their lessons each Saturday, balancing a review of familiar material with an introduction and reinforcement of new material, along with reading, writing and working on cultural projects.  Faculty meets monthly to set short and long-term goals, share information, as well as collaborate on classroom and general curriculum issues.

Our textbook selection ensures that teachers and students have access to the most current and appropriate textbooks, along with other materials to supplement the curriculum. Music classes enhance our curriculum and add variety to the children’s language experience. Students up to grade 5 perform German songs for our two annual school events/concerts, one for the December holidays and the other at the end of the school year.

We deliberately have small classroom sizes of 15 students or fewer, to help foster active language use and instruction.  Classroom placement is determined by the student’s ability, in order to ensure instructions are at an appropriate level.
