About the event

On November 1, 2025, the German Saturday School of Boston (GSSB) is honored to welcome back Peter Keup, who will share his extraordinary life story with our upper-grade students and interested parents.
Peter grew up in the DDR (East Germany). Like many seeking more opportunities, he attempted to escape to the West — but his attempt failed, and he was imprisoned. Later, he was freed through a political prisoner exchange, when West Germany bought him out of prison. His journey from restriction to freedom is not only a personal story of courage and resilience, but also an important window into the lived
experience of East Germans during a divided Germany.
The event will feature:
30-minute talk: Peter Keup shares his story, from life in the DDR to his path toward freedom.
